Initial thoughts: 8 for TWBB and NCFOM, 7 for Atonement. Juno as a best picture nominee is a joke, but I'll trade it for Michael Clayton getting nominated. Tommy Lee Jones should've been nominated for NCFOM instead of Elah.

Favorite suprise nominees: Best Score for 3:10 to Yuma and the numerous technical nods for both No Country and Blood (including Art Direction for Blood). Too bad Brolin didn't make it in.

But we shouldn't place too much stock in this stuff since Norbit was nominated and Zodiac wasn't.

I will be very upset if Julian Shnabel or whatever somehow beats PTA for directing. Or the Coens for that matter. I'd be fine with either winning.

And you've got to hand it to Norbit.

angelina jolie not getting a nom for a mighty heart is a travesty, and i don't understand tommy lee jones getting a nomination for elah instead of no country for old men, my favorite male performance of the year (not the best, which goes to day-lewis, so don't have a heart attack, lawyer, just the most enjoyable for me.)

Jones as the sheriff was sublime. He was the funniest and weariest character of the year, all at the same time. Elah is TLJ being TLJ, No Country is great acting. His character has had the cocky knocked out of him, which is a new wrinkle I haven't seen TLJ portray before.
