Another Europpraiser suggestion, this one has a pretentious band name AND song name. This is from the Fountain soundtrack I think. Gets good at 1:53.

Not pretentious, just Icelandic.
Sigur Ros (Victory Rose) Saeglopur (Lost Seafarer).
Jónsi Birgisson (aonther pretentious name I guess), is about the meekest human ever. How dare they name a band and sing songs in their native language.
Maybe they should do a self-aggrandizing made for TV rock-n-roll hall of fame concert. Maybe throw out some hot political opinions and openly endorse presidential candidates every 4 years. Or, they could even have an african inspired album complete with a video that ends with Chevy Chase playing a trumpet..You can call me Al.
Then I guess they would be a little less pretentious...
euro, i like sigur ros, as you know, but they are pretentious, as is "pretty much every band worth hearing. so, i've got some songs and i wrote some music and you should pay to hear my opinions and my pain as i shag everything that walks within 100 yards of me." still, they aren't singing icelandic half the time. they're using a made-up language. that's pretentious.
I agree, all bands are pretentious. And that's my point - Sigur Ros isn't any more pretentious than any of the others we all like. So, there's no need to single them out.
If only we could all COEXIST...
Any band whose lead singer plays the guitar with a violin bow is by definition pretentious. You need to give us an Explosions in the Sky selection.
I don't think Explosions would make past the censors...
