Saturday Night Live

Tomorrow night is the season premier, with host Michael Phelps (yikes). Rumor is that Tina Fey will guest star as VP nominee Sarah Palin, and Obama is weighing whether he should go forward with his appearance in the wake of Hurricane Ike kicking Doc's ass down in Houston. Should be a great episode in spite of Phelps given the crazy election season.

D+. This was a massive disappointment. Fey was great as Palin in the opening sketch, but that's about all there was to laugh at. The whole show was a mean spirited skewering of Palin and Palin alone. I don't think McCain or Obama were even mentioned. The problem was that the 'jokes' weren't jokes, they were daggers with a ribbon around them. I myself am not a big Palin fan (Palintologist?), but I am smart enough to know when the jokes are too heavy handed to be funny. Fey is probably beside herself with the Palin pick, which I understand....just don't let it impact the comedy, please. Phelps was horrific, and you could tell his problems were dragging the show down since he was obviously reading all of his lines. Wiig is the best thing going, still, and delivers some good performances in various sketches, especially 'ugly kids'. As for the musical guest, "Lil' Wayne" was HORRIFIC. Hard to believe that type of 'music' sells records.

Now I'm glad I don't have any electricity. I'll check Fey out online soon.

I didn't catch all of this, but I agree. On the part I saw, Palin was unfairly bashed. We get it, SNL, she's everything you hate. Pro-Choice, conservative, evangelical, knocked-up daughter not getting an abortion but marrying the papa, etc.... But make it funny. And another thing, her kid got pregnant. It happens. Especially in little towns where there's nothing else to do. At least she didn't kill her boyfriend (yes, a dig at you, Kennedy's. twice, actually.) Palin one heartbeat from the presidency scares the crap out of me, quite frankly, but if i want a diatribe, I'll turn on Olbermann. SNL's suppose to make me laugh.
