Season 2, Episode 3
Bret starts his own gang after "dissing" several well-known rappers at a library gig. Murray's New Zealand heritage is ridiculed by Australians who share his office building. The episode was consistently amusing and the song ("Hurt Feelings") gets better with repeat listenings. The episode was at its very best laying down parodies of West Side Story and Magnolia . . .
The ridiculous widescreen (somewhere between 3.5 or 4.0 to 1) during the character singalong for the slow version of "Hurt Feelings" was hysterical. Magnolia (which I love) is at 2.40:1. I also love Jemaine getting slapped by that guy in the cupboard. But I am worried about the new star cameos. Seymour Cassel (Rushmore) was fine, but bigger stars may upset the show's perfect character balance. B+

This was great throughout. Also loved the Magnolia ode and widescreen ridiculousness. Cassel was funny - his voice is so grating as he rips through his list of past 'gangs.' I like the cops also - "We don't like that kid very much, so we're going to overlook it this time". Also, watch Jemaine's face when Murray says he doesn't want the guys to think less of him. Between this and the new McBride show, HBO is the comedy haven.
