America's Game - Series Review

NFL Network, 2006.

America's Game is a superb series of one-hour documentaries focusing on the 40 Super Bowl winning teams and their championship seasons. I have seen about 15 of them, and they are powerful, moving and riveting in varying degrees. Each of them goes through the whole season, talking to 4 or 5 key players or coaches intermittently throughout the hour. The interviews are done very close-up with a white background that really lets you see how the game has impacted these men. The older championship teams are especially affecting because of the way the men light up when they talk about the games. They also provide an interesting story about the history of the NFL and the particular city of the winner. I want to watch each and everyone of them. It is among some of the best TV I have ever watched, and, given the NFL's place in American culture, I honestly think they are of significant historical value.

That being said, I am a lifetime Dallas Cowboys fan. The 5 Cowboys pieces are absolutely essential for any self respecting fan. Watching the 3 from the nineties stirs up emotions and is as enjoyable as watching an old home movie (a good one). For Christmas, you can buy this. For $30 you get all 5 Cowboy discs. Grab a hanky.
