Random Notes.

1. The first 2 minutes of this 2008 tribute to The Who is awesome - features Cameron Crowe, Eddie Vedder, Wayne Coyne, Coldplay, Sting, Conan and others talking about the band.

2. The trailer for the new JLo movie is the worst I've seen in several years. Worth watching its so bad.

3. I love to read Maureen Dowd's columns. This one sums up the Catholic abuse scandal pretty well and some of the reasons (hypocrisy, etc.) for my disenchantment with religion, too.

The J-Lo thing had that Ke$ha song playing - so thanks.

Liked Dowd's differentiation of giving into temptation. I doubt she'll ever write about any of the numerous positive aspects of religion.

True enough for Dowd, but the Vatican's use of the struggles of the jews to try and spin out of the abuse scandal is sickening.

While I agree with a fair amount of what Maureen Dowd says here, I would ask that she stay away from the defining of theological terms. Just because contemporary culture has taken terms such as temptation and sin and applied them to things like sweets and make-up does not mean that priests no longer get to use them correctly. Eating, or not eating, anything is not a sin, nor is it a temptation, Ms. Dowd. Committing evil is sin, and wanting to commit evil is temptation. In the casual use of non-casual words, we are left without any terms to actually talk about true evil when we come up against it.

I also feel like this is a more nuanced case than is currently being reported by most news agencies. The Vatican would be wise to go about doing what is obviously the right thing and ignore the media, instead of whining about the coverage when, obviously, the people wronged repeatedly in this situation are the children and the families.
