News and Notes

1. REM's final show (November 18) from their most recent tour is being streamed on their site for free. Good stuff.

2. New trailers: State of Play (Affleck, Crowe, McAdams redo the British political thriller); The Watchmen (cool trailer for a type of movie I usually hate); Wolverine (ditto); Two Lovers (Director James Gray, Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow in a tragic love story); What Doesn't Kill You (crime drama - looks good).

3. Director Steven Soderbergh's Che, starring Benicio Del Toro, is a must see for 2008, even though its now 2009. When it is released widely, it will be split into two 2 hour films. There was a 1 week run in NY and LA of the original Soderbergh intent, a 4 hour film with an intermission. Since that was so successful, they are giving the longer version a short theatrical run in Dallas and Houston (and a couple of other far-off places) starting next Friday, January 16th. Worth catching.

Russell Crowe's hair is way too long and he doesn't look like a longtime friend of Ben Affleck. Matt Damon would have been an interesting substitute. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt were also rumored as the 2 leads which would have been very cool. And Jason Bateman as Dominic Foy? Fingers are crossed.
