Glad to see Inglourious receive 9 noms.

No Avatar screenplay nod is my favorite thing about the list.

I can't wait to hear Doc's review of Serious Man. Blind Side is hilarious as a Best Pic. My question is - are the first 5 listed the top vote getters? It looks like it to me. Pumped Renner got nominated.

A Serious Man would be a blind buy next Tuesday if it wasn't for your review. I may get out reviews on Drag Me to Hell (pretty good) or Bore Me to Hell (Bright Star) by the end of the week. Also have Cold Souls (and Zombieland) sitting under the TV.

Bore Me to Hell is the best movie title EVER. HA!

Glad to see In the Loop get in. I almost rented Bright Star 2 nights ago but rented Extract instead for a second viewing - still funny - did you ever watch it?

And leaving out Cotillard for Public Enemies is a crime.

RE Extract: Infidelity "comedy" never ever works for me, but Judge made most of it fly by focusing on characterization. Bateman is great and I could definitely relate to him, now that I have switched from employee to employer. Bateman's reactions to all the idiocy surrounding him was priceless. I don't know how it could have ended, but that "chance" meeting with Kunis at the hotel solved the myriad of problems way too easily. B-, maybe a B if it holds up on second viewing. JK Simmons and Affleck were great.

RE: Bright Star - you guys are such Parks and Rec freaks that it may be worth a look just for Paul Schneider's superb performance. It looks like the same guy, but the guy in Bright Star deserves much better than playing fourth banana on a really good sitcom. Just don't forget the 12 pack of Red Bull.

On a random note, Owen Gleiberman's placement of I Love You, Man at #4 on his 2009 top ten left many scratching their heads, but it's all over cable right now and it's even better the second time through. The made up words didn't have to be in every scene, but it's a solid B. Aziz Ansari is memorable in about 30 seconds of screen time.

What about Koechner's neighbor character in Extract? That only gets better with a repeat viewing.

I love you man is good, but not that good.

I am probably de facto president of the Paul Schneider fan club - loved him in Jesse James, but my favorite performance of his is in Lars and the Real Girl.

Random note - finally watched Cars - my second favorite pixar movie (after Toy Story).

I love Koechner. Have you seen Thank You For Smoking? "Rock on, Kennedy!"

Sounds like you should eventually see Bright Star because of Schneider, but he's not in it enough to save it.

Cars gets a bad rap as one of Pixar's lesser works and maybe it needs a 5-10 minute trim. But I have no idea what you would cut. I've seen it more times than I care to admit and have found something different to like every time. I guess the LA and NY scenes don't like the middle of the country being celebrated. Bug's Life is probably their worst film, and it's still pretty good.
