Easily one of the best endings of the last 20 years. I can't think of a better one off the top of my head. See it in all its (R-rate gory) glory here. You think the movie's all about Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), but it's really about his surrogate Indian father (played by Russell Means). It is called Last of the Mohicans after all. Michael Mann would use Wes Studi again in Heat.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. The music and pacing of that final sequence is unlike anything I've ever seen. Magua is greatness, and, of course, so is Hawkeye.
